Northern Asbestos Services, a Moray based asbestos remediation and industrial cleaning company, have reported an exceptional trading period throughout September and October 2009 with orders of £407,000 placed for asbestos projects.
Managing Director, Mark Watkins commented on the accomplishment by saying ‘These orders have come at a pivotal time. A substantial proportion of our clients are construction related and with December and January being poor periods for construction related activity, these contracts that we have secured will continue to keep our existing personnel in employment and it will also set the foundations for our aim to expand our personnel levels by 50% over the next 12 months’
In addition to the company’s continual momentum in the North of Scotland, they have unveiled plans which will see their operations, administrative and commercial teams move to a new facility within Elgin by February 2010.
Mr Watkins added, ‘the new facility will see the relocation of our various divisions to a new larger and custom designed facility within Elgin. The new location will see increased storage, office and mobilisation and demobilisation areas compared to the existing levels. The move will enable us to deliver larger and a more varied spectrum of projects for our existing clients and allow us to execute new contracts’
The headquarters expansion is not the only geographical issue on the management team’s agenda. The company has ambitious plans for expansion and hope to announce the placement of an operations team in Central Scotland which will be trading from May 2010.

Managing Director Mark Watkins says: “We have experienced phenomenal growth over the last 15 months during which we have increased our personnel from 17 to 21. In addition we have appointed a further Trainee Project Engineer who will be joining us in September 2009 with ambitions to strengthen the removal teams with a further three members of staff by the end of this year.”
The company has just completed their first asbestos remediation works in the Southern sector of the North Sea for a major contributor in the energy market and are actively searching for contract opportunities both within Scotland and overseas.

The company will continue carrying out free of charge training and have invited any organisations interested to contact us if they wish to benefit from the training offer.

Elgin-based Northern Asbestos Services will visit individual firms to deliver asbestos awareness training free of charge for any company who requests the service.
Managing Director, Mark Watkins, says: "Training is of paramount importance to the successful running of a business. Health and Safety training is an absolute duty and in particular, asbestos awareness training is an absolute duty on employers where there is a risk that employee’s may come into contact with asbestos"
"With the current credit crisis effecting training budgets for employers our fear is that critical training such as asbestos awareness training is being passed over due to lack of funding. Failure to have this type of training may result in construction employees, building occupiers and general members of the public being un-necessarily exposed to asbestos containing materials which could result in catastrophic long-term health effects and instant anguish in the short term if they have been exposed"
The company is particularly interested in hearing from small to medium sized enterprises where funding is particularly difficult to locate at the present time.
Mr Watkins added: "In a lot of cases, it is just not only the training cost that may prevent employers from commissioning training. When you take into consideration that employees would be in a classroom environment for half a day and away from their normal base. That means that they are unable to earn money for the business which puts further burdens on the employer. We intend to come to these employers and deliver training on their premises. To ensure a safe and efficient business, training needs to be done, but it also needs to be time-efficient and affordable"
